Second Style has announced that it is accepting nominations for The Stylies. The Stylies are awards for those based on mainly fashion and several community categories. Nominations for the Stylies will be taken up until 7/16/10. For more information, visit the Second Style Magazine website. Winners of the Stylies will appear in the August edition of Second Style.

The Second Life Relay for Life, is a virtual representation of the American Cancer Society’s worldwide fund raising event to help battle cancer. The Second Life Relay For Life is a 24 hour event that begins on July 17th. At the event, residents can walk to celebrate the survivors of cancer, remember those who have succumb to the disease, or make personal commitments to continue to fight back. This would be the events 7th year, as it has raised, in total, $275,000 in 2009. For details, a list of events, and more information can be found at the Second Life Relay For Life website and blog.
The SecondLife Science Fiction Convention 3 is a science fiction convention that occurs within Second Life from July 9th – 12th, 2010. The convention is open to all family-friendly science fiction groups in an effort to raise money as a pre-Relay For Life fundraiser for charity for the American Cancer Society. Proposals for the SLCC Business and Enterprise Track are being accepted and are due on July 15th, 2010. These proposals can discuss case studies of past experiences, current challenges, best practices and Second Life’s future potential for business. Anyone interested in business and enterprise applications can submit their proposals by using the proposal submission form.

Linden Lab launched a redesigned version of XStreetSL, called the Second Life Marketplace. In conjunction with it’s Beta launch, for the first two weeks of the beta (June 30th – July 14th, 2010), any and all commission fees will be removed. After July 14th, commission fees will be added. On September 6 – 8, 2010, Innova Junior College, the Centre of Excellence for New Media, and the Media Development Authority will host the 2010 New Media in Education Fiesta (NMiEF).
