Changes to Metaverse Wire [March 7th, 2011]
Over the weekend, Metaverse Wire moved to a new server, as part of an overhaul to the structure of the feed. There have been several changes made to the website, along with new features that will appear in shortly. An overview of these changes are:
- Metaverse Wire now syndicates to both Plurk and Twitter (syndication currently in beta); there will also be some additional social aspects to both Twitter and Plurk
- Blog posts are automatically categorized based on the type of blog and pre-determined categories
- Category specific feeds are now available

Twitter and Plurk Integration
The aim of the Metaverse Wire is to serve information about the Metaverse to every single, possible channel. To best do this, both Twitter and Plurk have been integrated to the feed. When a new post appears on The Metaverse Wire, it’s also sent out to the two popular social networks, Twitter and Plurk. This is a new feature, and may act wonky at times as the services are fully integrated with the feed.
Follow Metaversewire on both Plurk and Twitter.
Blogs and Posts Automatically Categorized & Tagged
Metaverse Wire isn’t a singular topic feed. The feed follows many blogs across the entire Metaverse, that are diverse in topics and information. To best distribute this information, one feature added was category specific feeds (more information below). To best implement this feature, when added to the Metaverse Wire, blogs have been placed into a category, of which their blog posts will appear under. If a feed blog post, also fits another, pre-determined category, it will also appear under that category as well. These categories will increase, and possibly change in the future. The same rule applies for tagged posts.
Based on these rules, there may be some posts that will not appear on the feed. This is not intentional, and often a technical issue and not content censorship.
Category Based Feeds
There’s a lot of information that appears on Metaverse Wire. To best navigate through the posts, Metaverse Wire automatically categorizes blog posts into pre-determined categories, each which acts as its own feed. To visit the feed, you can use the categories that appear on the right, or subscribe to one of the category specific RSS feeds. Currently there’s 10 categories, which are:
- Announcements Feed: Generally Metaverse Wire based announcements) – RSS Feed
- Around The Metaverse Feed: General blog posts covering all topics – RSS Feed
- Art Feed: Art, Literature - RSS Feed
- Development/OpenSource Feed: Third Party Viewers, Open Source, and Development based items – RSS Feed
